Team Cooper - Everest Base Camp Trek - Day 2

Well wake up call this morning is at 6.30 with a wakey wakey, black tea call, then we are offered hot water for a wash before breakfast of porridge, eggs and toast at 7 am. Our bottles are filled with boiled water for drinking throughout the day. We are all ready to set off at 7.45am

The pace today is slow and we have eight hours to walk.  The weather is very much like home, misty but warm.

Everyone is in good spirits

Peter, Grant and Lawrie

We start at a height of 2500m, but we have to go downhill for 2 hours before going uphill for 6 hours.

Our porter with our bags

The morning has been okay, with the sun doing its best to come out.

We found a toilet beside this pig, very unpleasant

Graeme tries out carrying bags porter style

It's very warm and the scenery is beautiful with lots of vegetation, an array of pretty colours and butterflies.

At 11am we stopped for lunch at the Gorkhali Lodge.  Lunch consisted of soup, potatoes and chippati.  :)

After a long and steady but slow climb, we take a rest at 2700m, near a stupa and a monastery.

While here we witness this helecopter arriving to uplift a woman who has taken ill. This is the only way out.

We then proceed to go down cross the valley

Alistair has been making friends with the group...as we all totally knew would happen, haha. He's very popular with the children, although we're not sure about the donkeys that pass us as they take maize and fuel etc. to the villages.

Crossing  a steel bridge we then go uphill until 4pm where we reach our lodge  in Bupsa. 2500m

It's been a day of steep walking however it's not been too tiring...although some of the gang are still dead beat!!

Sue

We've seen lots of different insects today and two members of the group got a little bit closer to nature than they really wanted when they got leaches on them.  EWWWWWWWWWWWW.

We meet the yaks on Saturday as we finally get to the point of the trail that we were meant to start on.
Lukla is still closed and people are being airlifted from there by helicopter.

We have passed locals building a house with very little tools

We have hot chocolate and biscuit to keep us going till evening meal at 6.30.
We find out there is a shower out back and is quite hot so we decide to have one before dinner.
After our dinner we are told about our following days walk before turning in about 8.30

When we were in bed we saw a mouse run along the windowsill...we hope he's not come to get Alistair, heehee.
