Team Cooper - Everest Base Camp - Day 7

Slept much better last night and woke to ice on the tents and a nice frosty temperature of 0 degree centigrade.  Hot tea is very much welcomed.

We both feel okay but we hear the sad news that  Peter1 began to feel ill during the night at 3am.  He found it hard to breathe and had a bad headache, dizziness and blurred vision.  The cold reality of altitude sickness has definitely started to sink in.

After breakfast we say goodbye to Peter who will now head to Namche and wait for us there and then we head off on our way.  Today is an easy day, apart from the altitude.

A gradual uphill trek through rodedendrom woods before we cross another bridge...much to the delight of Joss, haha...NOT!!

We continue on up until reach Pangboche at a height of 3902m where we have a cup of tea which was a bargain at 38p and a cookie.

We continue up through alpine scrub, reaching Shomare at 4000m where at 11am we stop for lunch.  There are a few sore heads amongst the group, including Roy who took some paracetamol.  Graeme also feels that his eyes are a bit blurred.

The weather is getting cooler as the snow blows through the air.  Hats and gloves and what not get put on and although Roy and I are still wearing shorts, we've got all our warm stuff on top.

We cross the Khumbu Khola over the low bridge and climb steep for 30 mins then easy through wild moorland until we see Dingboche dung coloured and flat amongst a grid of drystone dykes and dwarfed by the immmensity of the backing mountains.

Not long to go

Graeme feels fine again and we are glad to see the familiar orange tents. We arrive at camp at 1.40pm and so tents begin to turn white as it starts to snow quite heavy.

The dinning rom is warmed up with a center heater using yak dung, it got really hot but did not last long.

Peter 2 so excited with the snow he comes in with a snowball

Hope all feel good tomorrow, its a rest day and we only have a 3 hour walk if we want.

Silvie is now suffering with a bad head and decides to try some Diomox which is an altitude sickness drug that a number of the group are carrying with them.
Guide Roy has advised that if you intend to take the Diomox to start tonight, breathing when lying down can be a bit laboured.
