Welcome to Roy and Gail's New Everest Blog!
Greetings people, welcome to Roy and Gail's new blog documenting their adventure to take on Mount Everest by trekking to the mountain's Southern Base Camp! As you all know, Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world, and one that suffers from the most extreme weather changes. These changes in weather make the mountain almost impossible to climb (at least for any sane person who values their life) at certain points of the year. Due to summer being Monsoon season, touring companies will just not risk taking people out during this time. Taking all of this into consideration, as well as when the school holidays are so Gail can get time off work, they shall be taking on this challenge in October. Due to this being a 3 week trek, Gail still had to apply to the Head of Education to get an extra week off on top of the two week October holidays. She has been granted this extra week off during school time under the grounds of exceptional circumstances. Yay! This is superb news and meant that she was then able to go ahead and book this trip of a lifetime.
This blog shall be documenting everything that Roy and Gail do in their mission to undertake this immense challenge. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming information on the charities that they shall be raising money for with this trek, any and all donations will be greatly appreciated, and you can be assured are going to worthwhile charities that help all sorts of people. :)
Ooh, and of course family mascot, Alistair McAlistair, child of Corinne (Gail's totally awesome and completely normal sister!) shall be coming along for the journey! Having trekked the Peruvian Amazon and the Inca Trail, as well as climbed mountains in Tenerife and and got up to all sorts of other mayhem...Alistair is the perfect team mascot to be representing this trip! :) He just better get himself some good waterproofs! ;)
